Estoril Golf Club

Estoril, Portugal

Description

Founded initially in 1929, Estoril Golf club is one of the oldest and most emblematic clubs in Portugal.  The course was expanded to a championship caliber course in 1936 by Mackenzie Ross.  Estoril has long been a prestigious tournament venue, having hosted the Portuguese Open 20 times and the International Amateur Championship 62 times.  Short by modern standards, the course is a par 69 at just over 5,800 yards, but is full of personality and unique but traditional design features.  Estoril Golf Club to this day offers caddies for hire, many of which are experienced and have worked for touring professionals.  While growing the Arthur Hills presence in Portugal, I began a relationship with the club to establish a Preliminary Master Plan for Improvements, which was completed in 2006.  The recommended refinements have not yet been implemented by ownership.
